With an eye on the client’s future needs, we configured hybrid connectivity with Microsoft 365. This means the business now has the flexibility to move mailboxes to the cloud whenever they’re ready, without another major migration project.

Before we switched off a single legacy component, we tested everything thoroughly: mail flow, client access, and failover scenarios. Only when we were confident the new system was stable and resilient did we decommission the old Exchange 2016 DAG.

The client now has a fully supported Exchange 2019 environment that’s ready for the upcoming Subscription Edition. More importantly, the Exchange Admin Centre works again, no more PowerShell-only management or workarounds. The IT team can now manage mailboxes, distribution groups, and settings through a proper interface.

The hybrid setup with Microsoft 365 gives them options for the future. Whether they choose to stay on-premises, move fully to the cloud, or run a mix of both, the groundwork is already in place.
